So I've been marathoning this anime series called 'Kaze no Stigma' (four more episodes and then I've finished) and while I enjoy it very much (the main character, Kazuma is love!) I must state this: I hate the main female character.

Utterly loathe her.

She is by far the most annoying female character that I have ever suffered through watching and/or reading about. I would much rather that it was one of her two friends that was the main female character. Nanase and Yukari are far more interesting than Ayano!

I just...I really want her to go the fuck away. I honestly cannot comprehend how people can love this character and this has never happened to me before! I mean, usually when I dislike a character, I can still *acknowledge* what other people find interesting about them. Not in this case. Ugh! She irritates the hell out of me! I knew going in that she acted immaturely but I thought it would get better as the series progressed, that she would grow the fuck up. No. Her middle school younger cousin (Ren) is more mature!

I hate her so so badly.

In other news (news which happens to still be annoying, sadly) the wedding next door? Also really fucking annoying.

What does man love more than life
Fear more than death or mortal strife
What the poor have, the rich require,
and what contented men desire,
What the miser spends and the spendthrift saves
And all men carry to their graves?

At the sound of me, men may dream
Or stamp their feet
At the sound of me, women may laugh
Or sometimes weep

Until I am measured
I am not known,
Yet how you miss me
When I have flown.

1. Aragorn Elessar
2. Captain America
3. John Sheppard
4. Cloud Strife
5. Zack Fair
6. Sephiroth
7. Teyla Emmagen
8. Portgas D. Ace
9. Nico Robin
10. Sam Winchester

  1. Divide the list up by even and odd. Which group of five would make a better Five Man Band (like a Power Rangers team)? Who would you slot in each position: Leader, Lancer (second-in-command), Big Guy, Smart Guy, The Chick? If you think the team would be improved by swapping one character between the even and odd groups, which ones would you switch?

Evens: Captain America, Cloud Strife, Sephiroth, Portgas D. Ace and Sam Winchester

Odds: Aragorn Elessar, John Sheppard, Zack Fair, Teyla Emmagen and Nico Robin

Evens-

Leader: Captain America

Lancer: Sephiroth

Big Guy: Portgas D. Ace

Smart Guy: Sam Winchester

The Chick: Cloud Strife

Odds-

Leader: Aragorn Elessar

Lancer: Zack Fair

Big Guy: Teyla Emmagen

Smart Guy: Nico Robin

The Chick: John Sheppard

Hmm…Who would I change? Actually, I’m pretty good with this team. Though I had the hardest time deciding who the Chick for the Evens would be. Both Cloud and Ace fit it so well! They can just share that position. J

Which team would be better? Well…one team has both Sephiroth and Captain America. So I think Evens would just kick all kinds of ass. But Odds wouldn’t be too far behind!

  1. Gender-swap 2, 8 & 10. Which character would have the most change in their story arc? Which the least? Would any of these characters have to have a complete personality change to be believable as the opposite sex?

Captain America, Portgas D. Ace and Sam Winchester.

For the motherfucking win! Cap would have the most background changes but come on. These three would make awesome women. And a female Captain America would be so fucking awesome that I can’t even begin to tell you how awesome it would be.

And Ace as a woman would just rock so hard that I cannot even deal. God. And Ace would walk around with just a sports bra and shorts on. With her cowboy hat. Because that is what Ace would do.

(And wow Sam. You thought Dean was protective when you were a boy? Two seconds as a girl would totally change that opinion)

  1. Compare the matchups of 1 & 8 and 5 & 9. (Ignore canon sexual preferences for the moment.) Which couple would be more compatible? Which couple would be more plausible to people from either principal's home culture?

Aragorn Elessar and Portgas D. Ace. Zack Fair and Nico Robin.

Wow. Ace and Aragorn. Ace would have such fun and Aragorn would put it with it with a long suffering, fond smile on his face. You know, the one that says ‘This is the man I love, he’s crazy but please forgive him’.

And a pirate as the uh Queen of Gondor? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Gondor will be like a siege for the first couple of years until the people get used to it. Anor will have already fallen to Ace’s charms.

Zack and Robin. Zack and Robin. Zack and Robin. …Dude. I will one day write that fic. Because Zack is just going to love making Robin smile and Robin will quietly adore Zack’s attempts.

Though Sephiroth might have a thing or two to say about his second-in-command dating a notorious pirate. But it’s not like Zack’s going to listen so whatever.

  1. Your team is 3, 4 & 9. The mission consists of a social challenge, a mental challenge and a physical challenge. Which team member do you assign to each challenge?

John Sheppard, Cloud Strife and Nico Robin.

John for the social (he’s friendly unlike Cloud) but we’ll just have to hope that they aren’t really fanatic soldiers disguised as Amish farmers.

Cloud for the physical. Dude can freaking slice up solid steel with that huge ass sword of his. And he can fly. Well hover but still. Cloud’s a SOLDIER (of sorts). Like I’d give him anything else.

Robin for the mental, hands down. She can outsmart anybody.

  1. 7 becomes 1's boss for a week in some plausible fashion. How's their working relationship?

Teyla as Cap’s boss. They would love each other. Cap would like her quiet strength and Teyla would like his ideals. Not only would it be the easiest working relationship of all time, they would keep in touch after wards.

Because that is the kind of thing Teyla and Cap do.

  1. 2 finds him/her/itself inserted into 6's continuity. As far as anyone other than 2 or 6 is concerned, they've always been there. What role would 2 be presumed to have had in 6's story, and could they fit in without going wonky?

Cap inserted into Gaia. And only Sephiroth could tell. Huh. …Wow. Cap would so be opposing Shinra. And he would convince Seph to defect and help him out. And of course Seph would bring Zack and Cloud.

So basically, Cap would lead AVALANCE. And Cap would have fun. After all, he would be able to fight the good fight and not have to worry about stupid shit like the Registration Act.

I want to write this fic.

  1. 3 and 5 get three wishes. The catch is that they have to agree on all three wishes before they get the benefits of any of them. What three wishes would they make?

John Sheppard and Zack Fair.

…The Wraith and Shinra (especially Hojo) had better pray to ever fucking deity that has ever existed that that never happens. Because if it does? Those fuckers would never stand a chance.

And then John and Zack would make sure that those they love are happy. Oh come on, what else would they do?

I want to write this fic too.

  1. 1 and 2 are brainwashed by a one-time artifact that works even on people immune to mind control to attack and kill 4. They keep their normal personality, skills and competence level, except any Code vs. Killing has been turned off. Can 4 survive? How?

Aragorn and Cap trying to kill Cloud. Cloud would survive but it would be damn close.

  1. 6, 7, 9 & 10 must help an orphanage full of small and depressed children have a merry Christmas. Who does what, knowing that at the very least the kids will be expecting a visit from Santa?

Sephiroth. No wait I can’t even continue. Oh my fucking God. You want Sephiroth around children?!?!

Oh Jesus Christ. Sephiroth will buy the gifts and then stand brooding in the corner, glaring at the small children who come up and ask if he’s related to Santa.

Um continuing on… Teyla, Robin and Sam. Sam would be Santa. Only because he doesn’t have a choice. And Teyla will be full of wonder and questions and Robin will be spectacularly morbid and sweet. It would be fun.

And Sephiroth will be in the corner. Quietly plotting Zack’s death for talking him into this.

10. 3 and 8 are challenged to circumnavigate the Earth in eighty days or less, using only forms of transportation invented before 1900. Can they do it, or will they be fatally distracted by sidequests or their own personality conflicts?

John and Ace. Jesus. They’d make it but only barely. And they totally had sidequests. So many sidequests, and so many people helped that historians will debate it for years.

And it’s quite possible that the two toppled one or four small governments on their way around. Maybe even five. Or six. But it was definitely less than ten. Maybe.

…Alright. No one is entirely sure how many it was. But it was a lot, okay?

Let's talk about other things! Because right now? I need a distraction.

So Criminal Minds-

Hotch=Mom

Gideon=Dad

Morgan=Big Brother

Elle=Big Sister

JJ=Eldest Middle Sister

Garcia=Littlest sister

Reid=Youngest child

Prentiss=Cousin who's sent to live with family (sort of forced on them) who eventually becomes another sister

Rossi=Guy who starts dating Mom once Dad abandons them. The kids aren't too sure if they like him or not yet.

I love my show. It makes me happy. (I stopped watching my other shows. I've...lost interest in them. Fandoms being stupid and all that shit. But CM? So much love for this show. Even if it disturbs me sometimes)

I also really really love One Piece and this arc is just amazing. It's awesome. The Zoro fight, Luffy and the zombies in the graveyard, everything, the Straw Hat clan v. Oz...

So much love.

*laughs* Man this is an old music meme that I answered but never posted.  And so I decided to finally post it instead of posting about how much school sucks (hint: a lot).

So basically if my life was a movie, this would be the soundtrack:

Opening Credits: Rufus Wainwright 'Hallelujah'

Falling in Love: U2 'Walk On'

Breaking Up: Joe Nichols 'Man With a Memory'

Prom: The Lucksmiths 'Sunlight in a Jar'

Life's Ok: The Lucksmiths 'The Music Next Door'

Mental Breakdown: 'May Angels Lead You In'

Driving: Switchfoot 'Dare You to Move'

Getting Back Together: The Lucksmiths 'Young and Dumb'

Birth of a Child: Shaggy 'It Wasn't Me'

Wedding Scene: Bliss 66 'Not Quite Paradise'

Final Battle: Elton John 'Your Song'

Death Scene: The Lucksmiths 'I Don't Wanna Walk Around Alone No More'

Funeral Scene: The Lucksmiths 'Putting It Off and Putting It Off'

End Credits: Joe Nichols 'She Only Smokes When She Drinks'

...A big 'The hell?' to the Birth of a Child and Wedding Scene ones. Seriously, the hell?!

Oh and Ep 320 rocked too. And I just realized that Franky's flashback sorta leads directly into the next Arc. Why, yes, I was paying attention.

Title: Fandoms I Have Loved (Or how I have only myself to blame)

*

The Lord of the Rings

LotR is one of the most amazing things ever created. I love this series; I will always love this series.

I know a lot of people think that Tolkien is boring, sexist, etc but I can’t agree with that. How can I?

Middle-Earth is one of the most thought provoking worlds I have ever read about (George Lucas could learn a thing or two from Tolkien about creating alien cultures and languages). The multiple themes in the books are heart breaking and inspiring. The Happy Ending isn't really a happy ending and yet, somehow, it is the most beautiful and fitting ending one could wish for. Tolkien's female characters are all beautiful and strong and can kick ass; Eowyn, Luthien, Galadriel and all would be insulted to discover that people think differently.

I can still remember, in nearly perfect detail, the first time I ever heard of Lord of the Rings. I was sitting in the movie theater with Dad, just the two of us (and I’ve since forgotten what we were watching), when the trailer for Fellowship of the Ring came on. Now, keep in mind that I was probably around ten or eleven at the time (and maybe, just maybe, a bit of a sissy too-no words Caitlin), at the time so uh the orcs? Scared the living daylights out of me. I remember turning to look at Dad and saying, quite clearly, “I don’t want to see that”.

Dad, surprisingly, disagreed with that. It turned out Dad is a fan of Lord of the Rings and so he began his campaign to change my mind. However, the way he went around this could have been better; he really should have tried a different strategy.

Because his strategy was to have me watch the animated version of FotR (I did not actually watch the animated version of RotK until I was a fan. My soul still bleeds a little every time I recall that piece of filth). Actually, while I was slightly bored, the watching of the animated version was going pretty good. Until, that is, I reached Gollum.

Gollum is fucking creepy in the animated version. I hate the animated version of Gollum; that thing gave me nightmares.

I actually refused to watch the rest of the movie unless someone watched it with me-Gollum scared me that badly.

So when December 2001 rolled around, I was very reluctant to finally watch FotR on the big screen. But I did end up watching it with Mom and Caitlin. In the car ride home, I might have only gotten a couple of the characters’ names, but I was very much interested in learning more about the series. Thus, when I got home, I repented and finally cracked open the books Dad had given me.

Ten chapters into the Fellowship of the Ring, I was cursing myself for not reading them earlier.

Four novels later and various volumes of ‘Home’ devoured, I’m still cursing myself for not reading anything by Tolkien earlier.

One Piece

My first introduction to One Piece was the 4kids dub version and, as anyone can tell you, the dub is not a great introduction.

*note-be careful about mentioning the dub to OP fans. We have a tendency to froth if it’s mentioned in our presence.

But, eventually (after watching a couple episodes. Hey, it was like always on whenever I turned on Cartoon Network), I became curious enough to first wiki the damn series and then track down the sub on youtube.

At first, it wasn’t so bad. So what if I watched thirty episodes in two days? So what if it took me about a week to watch over two hundred episodes?

 …Okay, forget the last one.

Actually the last example can tell you when I became a fan. It was hard not to. One Piece is just that addicting.

And now, I’ve watched three hundred and seventeen episodes and the series is nowhere near complete. Plus, I’ve already scoured the internet to find scanslations so I can read the current manga chapters.

So why do I like this series? Everyone pretty much makes fun of me for watching it. ‘It’s weird’ ‘It’s stupid’ ‘The main characters are creepy!’ I’ve heard all of these and more so many times that I’ve lost count.

One Piece…It’s hard to explain.

This series is about the importance of dreams and the importance of following your dreams. It’s about friendship and platonic love so powerful it can topple a god. The strength of friendship… Believing in yourself, in your dreams and in your friends… Never giving up, never dying, because you still have so much further to go…

I cannot describe One Piece to you. Everyone finds something about One Piece that calls for them; everyone takes something out of it.

The main characters make the show. The median age between them is about twenty-three, so they are really just a bunch of teenagers. They’re pirates-they’re bad pirates. They kick ass and take names; they are kids, adults and dreamers all at the same time; and sometimes they are funny and sometimes sad; and sometimes they are great people and sometimes they’re not.

And you want to know what’s so special about them? These characters are willing to  declare war on the World Government just to take back one of their own; they will  involve themselves in a war and save a kingdom simply because they name the princess as nakama.

They are going to change the world and they aren’t even trying to.

And that’s why I love them.

Stargate Atlantis

*tragic sigh* I really wasn’t expecting to fall in love with this show. I mean, I didn’t enjoy SG-1 that much so why would I enjoy Atlantis so much?

John Sheppard, Rodney McKay and Teyla Emmagen, damn them, answered that question for me in their very first appearances.

You know, I love these characters. I may want to smack them most of the time for being idiots and I have quite a few issues with the writers (hey, writers, lets have a little talk about medical ethics and how the military chain of command works…) but I love them all so much.

This is also the show that really, truly and deeply, made me a slash fan. Oh, I was a fan before. I liked slash and would read it but this show…this show made me believe in slash. That sounds funny, doesn’t it? How do you believe in slash?

Well before, I enjoyed slash but it wasn’t something I preferred. I felt like it was out of character. It was fun but it wasn’t real. The characters wouldn’t really get together, after all. Angel and Spike don’t count, by the way-Season Five of Angel blatantly said that the two of them have had sex before.

*note-I’m serious. It really did. Spike said it out loud. It was glorious.

But one look at John and Rodney and I could easily believe that those two were something more than friends. And…everything changed. Slash was now not just something fun; it was something that could happen. In fact, it was right on the bloody screen.

Yeah. So McShep made me love slash. Because McShep is just that awesome.

Also, I love Atlantis for the potential it has. Maybe the writers are going somewhere completely different, but Atlantis has so much potential for greatness. I can’t wait for Atlantis to declare its independence from Earth. And, hey, if that doesn’t happen in the course of the show then I can always pretend that it happens after the screen goes black.

Not to mention that I love the visual affects in the show. Atlantis is ace (the city this time, not the show though the show is ace too) and is also really really pretty! The scene in Rising when Atlantis rises from the depths for the first time in ten thousand years…I get goosebumps every time I watch it. It is such a beautiful scene.

And the best thing about Atlantis? Sci-Fi Fridays. The only thing better than watching an amazing show is watching an amazing show in the company of like minded people.

(Plus Mario Party Seven is fun. Just saying. Team Seagull for the win!)

Oh Atlantis… You are so pretty and shiny and full of crack and awesomeness and I love John so much and I hope he gets whumped in Season 4 and I hope that Season 4 doesn’t make me want to smack a bitch and I love you, Stargate Atlantis. I love you so much. Darling, you rock my socks.

Supernatural

Oh Supernatural… You kick so much ass. Unfortunately, you also know how to make me completely lose it. I mean, what the hell is up with all those cliffhangers Kirpke? ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME?! I MEAN REALLY NOW! Is that any way to treat your devoted minions?

*note-you are not a SPN fan until you can say ‘WTFSEMITRUCK?!’ in one breath. Just so you are aware of this.

(I’m not even joking here. Like all of the reviews after that episode all ended with that saying. Worst cliffhanger ever)

To be honest, I can’t remember exactly which episode it was that made me a devoted fan. This show just sort of snuck up on me, worse than One Piece ever did. One Piece, at lest, I can pinpoint the arc in which I fell in love. With Supernatural, it’s just like one day I went to bed a non-fan and the next day I woke up a fan. It makes no sense.

I watched the pilot and the first four episodes, and then caught nearly every episode when I could. However, it was just a hobby.

And then, somehow in like the blink of an eye, this show became so much more than a hobby. Suddenly I was counting down the days until Thursday. Suddenly I was invested in the Hunt. Suddenly I was in fucking love and with no clue how that even happened.

Sam might be my favorite character but hell; I love Dean and John too. The Winchesters are my boys and even when I want to smack them so hard, I love them. Winchesters, you put the fun in dysfunctional.

(Also I want an icon that says ‘My boys bring all girls to the yard. Damn right, they’re better than yours’. Yeah, I’m that pathetic)

The Hunters in this show are so much fun. They weren’t destined for this (well, maybe Sam) but instead chose it (for vengeance or because it was the right thing to do doesn’t matter at the moment). They’re not fancy people, rich people who are polished and groomed. Instead, the Hunters are the good old boys and girls down the streets, drifters who wander in and out of bars and shadows, don’t have thousands of dollars to finance them or a government aware of them. In fact, the government is more likely to hunt them down, thinking they are the murderers.

And that is just made of win. Not to mention the fact that Sam and Dean are just plain awesome. How can you not love these boys? They have witty banter and real angst and flaws and depths and they are sometimes really stupid and other times they’re really brilliant and it’s just so much fun to watch!

Plus, the heart of this show is the ties of family between the Winchesters and I’ve always been a sucker for that kind of stuff.

Yeah. I’m in love, boys, congrats. I am one of your fans.

Star Wars

This is like the fandom. Everyone knows this fandom. If you don’t then…You are a loser. A freak of nature. Someone I cannot speak to out of shame.

Oh what to say about Star Wars? How about how amazing the Original Trilogy is?! Because the Original Trilogy is pretty fucking ace! Seriously, it has so many things I like. The characters, the battles, the themes… Eee! So much love!

I mean, doesn’t it suck you in from the very first scene? The crawl text and then the space chase-it’s all so much fun!

There are so many things that are iconic about Star Wars that I can’t even speak of them? Where to start, after all? The Bespin kiss? The destruction of Alderaan, followed by the Death Star? Luke and Leia are twins? Darth Vader is Anakin Skywalker?! Really, which one do you want to talk about?

You know…I was eight the first time I ever saw Star Wars. It was a sleep over at Helena’s house and, after learning that I have never seen Star Wars before, we watched A New Hope that very night. …Followed by Empire Strikes Back in the morning and Return of the Jedi in the evening. Alright, so I watched all three movies in two days-they were just that fucking awesome.

I remember obsessively watching and re-watching the OT so many times. And it was only like, a year later when Episode One came out! And seeing as I was like nine at the time, Ep 1 was pretty cool back then. My opinion of the prequels changed by the time Episode 2 came out but Episode 3 restored my love of Star Wars.

Episode Three really did. I spent the entire time in the theater honestly praying that Anakin would not go evil. Congrats, Lucas, for building that tension. I don’t think you’ve done many other things right but you nailed that one.

(Though, I still think it’s amusing that the best romantic scene between Anakin and Padme occurred when they were a) not speaking and b) not even in the same building)

Though, Episode One does have a special place in my heart because its trailer inspired the following conversation. Caitlin and I were talking, she in the bathroom and me on my bed, though I can’t remember what we were talking about.

C: blah blah blah blah

M: Every saga has a beginning.

C: *surprised look* That is so profound.

M: I got it from George Lucas.

In conclusion, Star Wars, you rock. (And not just because there is awesome slash. No, really, not just because of that)

You know what was missing from the Harry Potter books? James Potter.

Let me tell you something about me. James Potter is my favorite character, followed by Godric Gryffindor. We know nothing about Gryffindor himself (we know very little about the Founders in general, truthfully) and despite James being Harry's father, we know very little about him.

What we do know about James:

-He played Quidditch

-He was an animangus, a stag (Prongs) to be exact

-He loved Lily Evans

-His best friends were Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew

-He hated Severus Snape and the feeling was mutual

-He willingly became an animangus to help his friend

-He was a jerk during his teenage years (oh that's a surprise...)

-Regardless, he saved Snape's life when Sirius attempted to kill Snape during their 6th year

-As an adult, he was supposedly someone to be proud of
-----I say supposedly because, aside from quotes and what little of James we do see, we know nothing of what James was like as an adult

-He trusted Peter and was betrayed by him

-He defied Voldemort three times prior to October 31st, 1981

-When Voldemort came to Godric's Hollow, James dueled him in an attempt to stop the Dark Lord and lost

-He, along with his wife Lily, died October 31st, 1981

This is all we know about him. And...it's not a lot. Why, for God's sake, couldn't JKR show, even just a throw away line really, how James changed.

I swear it was like, come Book Five, Rowling suddenly decided 'Oh, I don't like the character James after all; all those Snape/Lily writers have a point' and so made James an asshole. Never mind the fact that, for the four books previous, James was a pretty awesome guy.

I'm not complaining, however, about the idea of the Marauders being bullies during their school years. To be completely and brutally honest, James may have become my favorite character around the time I read PoA, but I did figure that the Marauders were probably like the guys in my PE class who were really fucking annoying.

I like the idea that James changed. 'Cause, you know, that does happen in real life. Despite what the entertainment industry would have you believe, people do change once they get out of highschool. I like the idea that James grew up, that James wasn't this eternal Peter Pan type character.

But was it too much to ask that we see this? That we get to see that James grew up? Something more tangible then the voice the Dementors showed Harry?

Apparently so.

It goes without saying, really, that I'm not too thrilled with the latter books of the Harry Potter series; I haven't enjoyed any of them since Goblet of Fire.

The general conclusion I've come with to explain this is the fact that there was such a long time between Book Four and Book Five. In that time, I read a lot of fanfiction. I read a lot of stories about what could happen that I enjoyed a whole fucking lot. So, while I like some things that the latter books developed, I don't like them.

I guess the problem is that I expected more.

And in the end, as Russell Abren Fox said, Harry Potter is just "a children's story after all".

I wanted more, you see. I wanted Tolkien. I wanted a Happily Ever After that's not really that-it's just an ending, one that Life gives you. It's happiness and joy and loss and living all at the same time. Rowling didn't give me that, not truly.

I wanted there to be more to Harry's story. I wanted consquences, a sense that Harry is not, like Frodo was at the end, who he was when this all began. I wanted a taste of epicness; I wanted Harry to grow.

Instead, the character who grew the most was Neville. Not that I mind in the lest bit (Neville was the most awesome character in Book Seven) but Harry is the hero, not Neville.

What I wanted was to experience something that left me breathless; a story that had complexity and morals and messages that would stick with me for a long time.

I didn't get that.

After all, Harry Potter is only a children's tale.

But, oh, how it could have been so much more.
